My Side of the Spectrum

My optimism was often frowned upon
The world is cold and cruel they went on
If you let your guard down, they said
Into spirals of doom you shall be lead
Take off those rose-tinted glares
Look around at all this despair
Do you think this is a dream?
Can’t you hear the reality scream?

You say the world is getting darker
While it unites in prayer when times get harder
Why do you want the uproar to pause
When all our hearts beat for a cause?
Why do you want to close your eyes
To opening minds and breaking ties?

Yes, there’s a difference between what you and I see
As two rivers merge into the sea,
While you see their end, I see two lovers finally meet
It’s easy to give up in view of the apocalypse
To let a magical prayer, die on your lips
When the darkness caves in on you
Be the spark that ignites hope anew

My world is not much different from yours
I believe love will triumph and win wars
You’re right, I haven’t seen all the bad in this world
But I have seen the good, and it’s worth fighting for.
